Eugene Flaum, M.D.
Dr. Eugene Flaum completed his undergraduate and graduate training in the Biological Sciences at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. He then went on to medical school at the same institution and graduated in 1964. He started a rotating internship, followed by a residency program in Pediatrics during which he was drafted by the U.S. Army as a pediatrician during the Vietnam war.
After a year of pediatric service, caring for military families, he was deployed to Vietnam, and remained there from 1967 through 1968. He directed the care at a 750 patient Vietnamese Provincial Hospital, the local troop dispensary, while spending numerous hours as an "ambassador" to military leaders, visiting members of the press, senators as well as working closely with members of many volunteer organizations. He was decorated with the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service.
Upon his return to USC, he completed one year at Cedars of Lebanon as a surgical resident, then went on to complete and graduate from the Otolaryngology residency program at Los Angeles/USC Medical Center. In 1972, he started in private practice as an Otolaryngologist caring primarily for children. He spent over 20 years on staff at Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. Dr. Flaum has been a member of the Pediatric and Department of Surgery faculty at the Cedars Sinai Medical Center (CSMC) for almost 35 years caring for pediatric patients with complex otolaryngologic disorders while teaching students and residents of the medical center and UCLA. He is also a member of the volunteer Otolaryngology faculty, Department of Surgery of the University of Southern California. He has held many positions at Cedars including Vice Chief of staff, Chairman of the division of Otolaryngology, a long time member of the Medical Executive committee, the Surgical as well as the Pediatric advisory committees, Chairman of the Credentials Committee, Director of the Pediatric Otolaryngology clinic. He remains a member of the CSMC Pediatric Craniofacial team while maintaining a busy medical and surgical practice.
Dr. Flaum is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, Los Angeles Otolaryngology Medical Society, the American Medical Association and the Los Angeles County Medical Association. He has presented at numerous meetings of the American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngologists. He has authored many scientific articles and book chapters. His clinical interests include the comprehensive otolaryngologic care of pediatric patients with complex airway issues, craniofacial syndromes, dwarfism and hereditary hearing disorders.
